F.A.Q.
What’s the difference between the various kits?
• lockup-mate®PLUS+ (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/lm8plus)is for Toyota vehicles only.
• lockup-mate®MINESPEC (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/lm8minespec)is for Toyota 70 Series mining vehicles.
• lockup-mate®MX+(https://www.mm4x4.com.au/lockupmatemx) is for Isuzu and Mazda BT-50 vehicles only.
• lockup-mate® (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/lockup-mate)(for Mitsubishi) works best in SPORT/MANUAL mode of the transmission, with the driver controlling the gear choice. In DRIVE it only works at speeds >80kph. In DRIVE, the factory ECU is in control of the gear changes. This product is only available if an auto-mate is not available for your model.
• auto-mate (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/auto-mate-pajero-challenger-triton)(for Mitsubishi) is more advanced, and replaces DRIVE mode. auto-mate uses the lockup kit computer to control both gear changes and the lockup clutch for a fully integrated solution. This means auto-mate is like a new DRIVE mode optimised to keep the transmission’s torque converter locked up.
• auto-matePRO (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/auto-matepro-pajero)is specifically for the Pajero NT+ Diesel ONLY. It was developed to allow a wider choice of configuration parameters, specifically for retuned engines or the enthusiast who wants more ability to control how the transmission will operate. It is our top-of-the range Pajero product and includes the ability to switch between 2 different memory setups (defaults are City Mode and Towing Mode, but you can make each memory your own setup).
• auto-mateSPORT (https://www.mm4x4.com.au/auto-mate-sport)is specifically for the MR Triton (2019-2023) and provides 3 new drive modes (Normal, Towing, and Power) for maximum lockup and responsiveness. Unlike our other lockup kits, it does not override the operation of the TC clutch, however it controls the transmission in the ‘better’ SPORT/MANUAL Mode in a more intelligent way to maximise lockup for reduced transmission temperatures, better fuel efficiency and responsiveness.
Why choose an MM4X4 Lockup Kit?
• Simplest to install
• Fully electronic - no mechanical mods
• Doesn’t reprogram any ECU
• Easiest to use
• Fully automatic - no stalling
• Set and forget – no buttons to constantly push
• Lockup status LED
• Computer controlled using ECU information obtained via CANBus
• Best performance
• Clutch and driveline protection with SafeLock®
• User adjustable
• Load sensitive - no turbo chopping and better drivability
• Variable PWM control - no clunks or burnt-out solenoids
• Advanced integration specific to each vehicle model
• Australian made and supported
Which kit is suitable for my vehicle?
Each of our lockup kits is specifically tailored and adapted for each vehicle supported for optimum performance and features. This is why we have many different kits available. The table below should be used to determine which kit(s) are available for your vehicle.

Why do we make different kits for different vehicles?
Each kit is designed specifically to integrate seemlessly with each vehicle's ECU.
Why would I need a lockup kit?
Do any of these statements apply to you?
• I want better fuel economy, especially when towing.
• When touring, my transmission flares unnecessary which frustrates me.
• I just want to get to my destination safely and not worry about overheating the transmission.
• My car has gone into LIMP mode because of the transmission getting too hot.
• I like the feel of a manual gearbox and dislike the slushy feel of the automatic.
• I monitor my transmission temperature at it easily gets too hot for my liking.
• I do a lot of 4WDing and find the transmission gets too hot when climbing steep hill or in the sand.
• My mate had one and swears by it!
Here are some of the benefits of installing a MM4X4 lockup kit:
1. Temperature Protection. To protect your automatic transmission from damage caused by high temperatures when driving the car under heavy load conditions. Towing, climbing very steep hills, or sustained driving is softer sand can result in very high transmission temperatures. An MM4X4 lockup kit will keep transmission temperatures lower by automatically controlling the torque converter clutch to minimise slippage which causes excessive heat build up.
2. Save Fuel: Reduced transmission temperature means fuel is not being wasted due to heat losses. Customers reported 10-20% better fuel economy - depending on driving condition and the vehicle model.
3. Less RPM flaring: a lockup kit will hold lockup for longer than the factory transmission program and causing less RPM flaring (which normally happens at just the sight of a hill).
4. Maximum Engine Braking: MM4X4 lockup kits will hold the torque converter locked during engine braking, which increases the engine RPM, therefore providing better compression braking. This increased RPM provides the maximum possible engine braking performance.
5. Better responsiveness: With the torque converter locked there is direct drive from the engine to the wheels, making power application more responsive and it eliminates the ‘slushbox’ feel of an automatic transmission.
6. A more relaxing drive! Surprising, but many customers have provided us with feedback that they find their touring more relaxing and quieter. I expect this is because the vehicle just doesn’t need to work as hard. The RPM is lower, fewer gear changes, less RPM flaring, and the car feels like it’s struggling less. One customer even reported his wife noticed her water bottle was cooler, because there was less heat coming from the transmission tunnel against which she stored the bottle. Who would have thought!
Do you sell your kits internationally?
