The ultimate.

auto-matePRO is the latest release. It was developed to improve operation in vehicles with remapped engines and/or for customers who wish to use it during their daily drive (when not towing). auto-matePRO has two memory configurations and allows easy switching between them by just triple-clicking the LED/switch. Typically, customers setup the two memories for towing/touring and city driving. It has more configuration options to tune it for your vehicle or driving preferences.

The original.

auto-mate (the original) essentially adds a towing mode to the transmission. Typically you switch it on when towing, and off when not.  It can still be used for your daily driving, however in city traffic when the speed varies between say 50-60 or 70-80 it changes gears more often. auto-matePRO (above) improves upon this for a smoother driving experience.

The good sport.

lockup-mate® has basic features and doesn’t control the gear selection.  It suits the driver who prefers using SPORT mode or tows a light load, such as a camper trailer or small boat.

The differences in detail

In simplest terms, the difference between our two auto-mates and lockup-mate® is that auto-mate/auto-matePRO is easier to use because it takes control of the gear changing when in DRIVE mode to maximise lockup benefits, whereas with lockup-mate® you get best results when operated in SPORT mode by the driver.

In SPORT mode, all units operate the same, but in DRIVE mode, lockup-mate® only operates when above about 80 kph (which is lowest speed in 5th gear) whereas auto-mate/auto-matePRO locks up from 30 kph in DRIVE.  auto-mate/auto-matePRO also has extra features like being able to lockout 5th gear and always displays the current gear in the instrument cluster.  auto-matePRO has more adjustable parameters and two memory settings.

Your choice of product depends on how you like to drive, who drives the car, cost, and features.

You can get the same fuel saving and transmission temperature protection benefits with any, however with lockup-mate® there is more onus on the driver to ensure the right gear is selected using SPORT mode to keep the torque converter locked up.

auto-mate/auto-matePRO is easier to use, as you just place the car in DRIVE and it will keep the torque converter locked by changing gears for you at the right times - like a set and forget operation. It’s also the choice if you want to use it during your daily drive, or if your partner does a lot of driving and is not as car savvy or doesn’t like using the transmission in SPORT mode.
